Good Weather for Driving

It looks like the weather will be nice for driving, just hot. No rain in sight so far!

On the Road...

It's 1:00 in Houston and we are finally on the road and this is my view for the next 1000 miles!

Friday 9am

Slept good...who knew two advil and an air mattress was a good combination!! Barney slept in his bed next to us. Last minute stuff this morning. Feel refreshed. It is a sunny day and realize this is the last time we will hear our Texas birdsong. The birds, squirrels and the occasional bat has entertained us. We loved the blue herons that Hurrican Ike chased from Galveston to the trees behind us. They would come for a drink in the pool. Speaking of pool, nothing like dangling poor, tired feet in a cool pool. Well, we are in the homestretch now....probably leave in a few hours. PODS will both be picked up by 11am and stored in Houston til we are ready for them in Florida. Haven't checked the weather.....praying that it will be good....everything else has gone perfect....

Barney is asleep (morning nap) in his house or for today we will call it his RV...not much breakfast for him today...in fact, he turned his nose up at it all.....yesterday was good for him...today he is back to being a little clingy. We have decided that since I am the "Lead Dog" (okay, don't laugh, I think this is true..ruff ruff) that Barney will have to ride with me.....carpet cleaner just got cranked up so I'd better get back to work...haven't had coffee yet...can't find any...darn!!

Dead Dog Tired

Change of plans now......after the UHAUL fiaco, we decided to call it a day. So instead of heading out at 9am as planned, we are going to shoot for between 11 and 12...it will  give us time to get a good night's sleep and do some more cleaning in the morning. Plan now is to spend night in Slidell, LA and catch up with dear friend while there....may delay our arrival to Florida but we are not on a timetable...Barney is loving playing ball in an empty house......He ate all his dinner and even a snack and is tucked in his bed already. He seems to be doing well...it's just us....think we are getting too old for this stuff..ha!!

Well, not quite without a hitch..so to speak...

The PODS were loaded and not one little, itty, bitty, baby inch to spare. We were getting a UHAUL too for plants and overnight bag, and important things. Well, the movers didn't tell us there wasn't enough roomj, they just stacked plants on top of plants, gulp and we discovered it......had to unload it..go back to UHAUL place which is where he is now and he will return and we will have to repack......it is all sitting in my driveway..100 degrees...oh well......

But Barney had a good day at the groomer where he lounged on bean bag chairs, had some french fries for lunch and got hugs and kisses.

The day is not over....scrubbing and cleaning this place and one more load of donations to Goodwill...may get on the road later than planned...and oh yes, the people moving in after us want a walk through tonight........

Moving Day Is Here

Thursday at Noon......

Barney says it has been stressful.....even turning his nose up at a McDonald's hamburger. He is at the groomer gets love and hugs before he comes home at dinner time.

Mama says she is never going to do this again...move that is......Hot day. Drinking lots of water. Three guys are turning this house upside down quickly and loading even faster. Doing a great job. Keith lovingly wrapped the big screen TV...you can tell what and who his baby really is!! ha ha

Time for lunch and one POD is already packed...the house is beginning to have a hollow sound.....vacumming and cleaning room by room. Making good progress. the movers are very polite, respectful....that makes for a good day for us all.

Tonight have to gas up the vehicles, pack coolers and snacks and we are outta here in the morning.

First stop will be Slidell, LA to see very dear friend...may spend night in Slidell or head afterwards to Mobile, Alabama which will be halfway to our journey to Safety Harbor, FL.

more later......

That's it for now.

The Pods Arrived

Mama's turn to write.......

First there was one and then another...Driveway is full of PODS. We've never used this type of moving system before. We've done the packing and that was no easy job and then tomorrow a team of three hopefully very strong, efficient men will come to move everything into the PODS. The refrigerator is cleaned out, bathrooms scrubbed and the carpet cleaner and vacuum are poised and ready to go into action when the place is vacant.

Leaving Texas is bittersweet. This is our second stint in Texas, first Waco and now Katy. Although we tried very hard, just didn't feel like we had put down any deep roots. until I met my art friends and then it started to feel like home. With all the kidney stone issues for the last two months, haven't gotten in the pool once. It sure looks inviting and if I wasn't so tired, I might jump in. Keith and I went to see the cardiologist yesterday for our checkup and to get meds refilled before the adventure begins. He is a kind man and as we told him our plans, he smiled and said it sounded as though we had our priorities right...and we agreed.

What will we miss in Texas.........some good Mexican restaurants for sure. The warm climate in the winter. We don't wish to brag but we did wear shorts in February this past year. The longer growing season and the tropical plants but wait, we will have those in Florida too...Yeah!!  Leaving here is going to be okay because it is the season for this to end and a new season is unfolding in front of us. We are hopeful, excited. We have a church picked out too...one we have been to when we have visited before. It is lively, a good message and very friendly. Will be nice to join in. The art community is something I need to look more into. Want to see the galleries, find out what artists I like and see if any of them teach.

But for now, tonight....Keith is out getting McDonald's and it is almost 8pm...much more to do this evening...it is coming together....Lord I pray it all fits in two PODS. It was a hot one today and this evening is comfortable and clear. Watered all the plants we are taking with us and we will put them in a UHAIL that Keith will pull with his pickup. Barney and I will ride in the Mustang behind. Heard something about a storm brewing. Sure hope we miss the rain, but Texas sure needs it.

And Barney....well he is fine. He is going to dine on a hamburger this evening too. He is anxious, a little clingy and playful at the same time. I don't think he minds the new adventure as long as he can be in my lap. Tomorrow he goes back to the groomer where he will gets hugs and love and some puppy day care so he doesn't run out the door or gate with so many people moving about.

Sweet dreams everyone and thanks for the prayers.  More tomorrow
